Office 1

WASO DESIGN is an international architectural boutique studio based in Óbidos, that integrates personal & professional experience in architecture with product design.

THE ROOT

In a bustling city where buildings towered like giants, Waso Design began as a humble dream. The name “Waso” was derived from an ancient word meaning
“harmony”—a fitting reflection of the studio’s ethos. Founded by a group of passionate architects who believed that true beauty in architecture is found not in grand gestures, but in the subtle interplay of form, function, and the natural environment, Waso Design emerged as a boutique architectural office with a clear vision: to create spaces with soul.

From the beginning, Waso Design was committed to the idea that architecture should enhance life, not just fill space. The founding team had worked in large firms, where projects often became more about profit than passion. They craved a return to the essence of architecture design that considered every detail, honored the environment, and reflected the uniqueness of the people who would inhabit the spaces they created.

As Waso Design grew, they maintained their boutique nature, choosing projects that aligned with their values rather than simply chasing the next big contract. They worked on everything from serene residential retreats to intimate retail spaces and community centers that fostered connection. No matter the scale, every project was approached with the same dedication to quality, sustainability, and the creation of spaces that felt alive.

Elevating everyday living through thoughtful design, where each project is a masterpiece of balance, beauty, and purpose.”

Our work process

Client Meeting: The process begins with a detailed discussion with the client to understand their vision, needs, budget, and expectations. This phase is about listening and gathering as much information as possible.

Site Analysis: The team conducts a thorough analysis of the site, including its physical characteristics, local context, environmental considerations, and any regulatory constraints.

Brainstorming & Ideation: The architects engage in creative brainstorming sessions to explore various design ideas and approaches that align with the client’s vision.

Preliminary Sketches: Initial sketches and concept drawings are developed to visualize the ideas. These sketches serve as a foundation for further refinement and discussion.

Client Review: The concept is presented to the client for feedback. The boutique nature of the office ensures a close, collaborative relationship, allowing for adjustments and refinements based on client input.

Detailed Design: The concept is further developed into detailed drawings and 3D models. This stage includes refining layouts, materials, and key architectural elements.

Sustainability Integration: Sustainable practices and materials are integrated into the design, reflecting the office’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

Consultant Coordination: The office collaborates with consultants (structural engineers, MEP specialists, etc.) to ensure the design is feasible and meets all technical requirements.

Construction Drawings: Detailed construction drawings and specifications are prepared, outlining every aspect of the design for builders and contractors.

Permit Acquisition: The office handles the submission of drawings and documents to local authorities to obtain necessary permits and approvals, navigating regulatory processes on behalf of the client.

Bidding & Contractor Selection: The office may assist the client in selecting a contractor by managing the bidding process, ensuring that the chosen contractor aligns with the project’s quality standards and budget.

Site Supervision: The architects oversee the construction process, conducting regular site visits to ensure the design is executed as intended. This hands-on approach ensures attention to detail and adherence to the boutique office’s high standards.

Client Updates: The client is kept informed throughout the construction phase with regular updates, photos, and progress reports.

Punch List: As construction nears completion, the office creates a punch list of any remaining work or corrections that need to be addressed.

Final Walkthrough: A final walkthrough is conducted with the client to ensure all aspects of the project meet their expectations.

Handover: The completed project is handed over to the client, along with any necessary documentation, warranties, and maintenance information.

Follow-Up: Even after the project is completed, the boutique office maintains a relationship with the client, offering support and addressing any issues that may arise.

Feedback & Reflection: The office seeks feedback from the client to continuously improve its processes and maintain its commitment to excellence in design.
